Circumnavigating Manhattan by sea kayak is far from a typical paddling experience. The sea kayak, a craft used almost exclusively in natural environments, offers rare isolation within the dense, urban center. The water itself deviates from a traditional sea kayaking route. When timed correctly, paddlers can utilize forward flowing currents across three tidal rivers that creates what seems like an infinite loop through New York City’s five boroughs. Through sharing this unique experience with friends, Kenny Unser has completed over 70 laps around Manhattan Island by kayak.
