Severe Beating on Devil Slide, Sorba River (Italy)
Watch french paddler Hubert Montagny getting severely beat while running Devil’s Slide on the Sorba river in Italy. The outcome of this beating were both fortunate and unfortunate at the same time. Hubert was found unconscious and rescued right away to be brought to hospital; luckily no physical consequence for Hubert from this beating.
This footage was originally entered in the 2017 Carnage for All video contest, but given the fact that Carnage for All is meant to be a funny video contest, with a clear rule that no one should have gotten severely injured during the action of the carnage, we decided to take it off.
However, after talking to the filmmaker (Olaf Obsommer), we decided to publish it for educational purposes; the idea here is to show that no-one should paddle above its class (which was clearly the case for Hubert that day…), and that when you do, consequences can be serious, if not tragic.
Top paddlers have years of experience, running hard whitewater, analysing their lines, are extremely fit, and carry a large-size pair of Cojones. Having only a pair of Cojones in your bag of trick is largely insufficient.
Food for thought.
