Short Film Awards 2022

$5000.00 Cash prize! We’re stoked to announce Entry #1 A Quality of Imagination by Caleb Roberts is the winner of the 2022 Short Film of the Year Awards, walking home with a $2500 cash prize, 2nd place is Entry #30 There is Good in Anything by Gonzalo Roberts getting a $1500 cash prize, and third place is Iceland Raw by Great Visual Prod. getting a $1000.00 cash prize. The final results are based on online votes for 50% and the Juges Call for 50%. Congrats and thanks to all 33 film-makers who entered the 2022 contest. The 2023 Short Film Awards resumes in February 2023.

Entry #33 of the Short film awards by Jordan Espinosa from Ecuador! "This was my participation in the "Cascada 2022 Project" carried out in Ecuador. A project in which kayakers from all over the country participated, with the aim of showing their skills and enhancing the potential of our rivers for kayaking as a sport in our country, also with this we seek to create awareness in all people and protect our rivers! which are under constant threat. Waterfall Connection! (Entry #33 Short Film of the Year Awards 2022)

"Heber Fever is a paddling festival that happens on Easter weekend on Vancouver Island. The town of Gold River is considered the "promised land" by some for whitewater kayaking. Both the Gold River and the Heber River flow right through the town, and within half an hour of driving there are 10 quality runs from class II to V, from big water to creeking. Easter weekend draws boaters of all types for some paddling fun, a baseball game, camping, and an easter egg hunt. 2022 saw our lowest flows yet, but even when the flows are low, you can still have a great time. My boyfriend introduced me to the sport a year earlier and shared with me his lifelong love of whitewater, its community, and the happiness it has brought him. Sarah Ruhlen's approach to whitewater in media further inspired me to produce this year's race video, and I am excited to share my perspective of the sport and the beauty that surrounds it."

"Diego Robles claimed the first descent of the Upper Rio Pusuno (Napo, Ecuador) in 2014, in eight years he has seen this magical whitewater river lost to the development of small-scale hydro power. This is a crisis occurring all throughout Ecuador and will continue to effect Ecuador’s most beloved paddling destinations. This story hopes to reach beyond kayaking and into the hearts and minds of river lovers everywhere, who are witnessing firsthand a globalized attack on Mother Earth’s aquatic freshwater resources."
