Its that time of the year again and were proud to announce the Asahan River Festival 2018, for its third year running. The Asahan river is nestled in the heart of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Surrounded by thick rainforest and thriving wildlife the river meanders and drops through five amazing sections of whitewater ranging from class three to class five. Its warm, continuous and bouncy. Gladed over sections, steep volcanic basalt canyons, gibbons erupting in song every morning, hornbills fly across the horizon, and monkeys wreak havoc in the canopy, and on the river banks. This is a valley lost in time and is a kayaking destination like no other, and we want to share it with you.

The festival commences on the 27th of November and finishes on the 10th of December. It is a two week long festival filled with as much kayaking as one can desire. Along with the world class kayaking and competition we are offering a WRT Rescue 3 international swiftwater course (internationally recognised as the industry standard of swiftwater certification), riverside accommodation, daily yoga, multiple jungle & waterfall hikes, rafting, music and three meals a day of locally sourced food from the valley. This is an all inclusive kayaking vacation, that caters to more than just kayakers. The last three days of the event is the Toba Caldera Championships, this is where the competitors will race against the clock on sections that they have been training on together throughout the duration of the festival. The finals this year we have brought in a new section to the competition, by request of past competitors, a class 5 sprint down the nightmare gorge. This section has commiting and serious whitewater, and is the perfect place for the finalists to battle it out for the title.

Travel to the Asahan valley is made easy for you, we ask everyone to meet at the Medan airport (Indonesia) in the evening of the 27th of November and we will great you with private transportation to the event. After the event we finish off our amazing time together with a final party on a resort island in Lake Toba, then private transport back to the airport the following day to send you on your way home, or to carry on your southeast asia adventure somewhere else. Again, this is an event like no other, with the main focus being the most amount of kayaking possible one of my favourite rivers in the world.
