2015 Freestyle Worlds Video Highlights by Steve Fisher
Well, what to say… I just spent the week filming highlights as part of the live coverage at the 2015 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships. Here are the highlights from Saturday’s finals. While I may have invented a few moves on the score sheet, I have never done or seen them done as flawlessly, repeatedly and consistently as what I saw here – humbling to say the least. Freestyle is alive and well, and at a calibre I never thought possible. Can’t say enough about how impressive it was to watch.
Well done to Emily Jackson (Women’s Champion) and Dane Jackson (Men’s Champion) and all the other class winners. As Nick Troutman said, « the only way you can win this is if you do a major and different move on every pass », and that’s exactly what Dane did. With that said, Dane could as easily have come 5th in the final – The level of competition was unbelievable. In the end it came down to epic rides by Mathieu Dumoulin (FRA), Nick Troutman (CAN) and Dane Jackson (USA) with Dane squeaking ahead.
