Film Release: Between the Lines
First shown during the Industry Dinner Party at the 2025 Paddle Sports Show, NRS just announced the official digital premiere of Between the Lines, a 14-minute short film presented by NRS and produced by the acclaimed team at BoonDocs.
Filmed in the heart of Chilean Patagonia, Between the Lines follows guide, angler and lifelong river-runner Alex Obregon as he reflects on two decades spent finding home, identity and purpose on the iconic Futaleufú River.
A meditative fusion of fly-fishing and whitewater, Between the Lines offers a vivid portrait of a life shaped by water. Through stunning cinematography by Felipe Zanotti (Z Films) and intimate storytelling led by director Liz McGregor, the film brings viewers into Alex’s world, where guiding is not just a profession, but a calling.
“Every time I come to the river it connects me to my roots. I feel at ease, I feel like I belong,” says Obregon, for whom guiding intertwines passion, environmental stewardship, and community. “I love whitewater, I love fishing very much, and the only thing I love more is sharing with people.”

McGregor calls the film “a story about listening to what truly calls you and answering that call,” adding that Alex’s connection to the river offers “a reminder to deepen our own relationships with nature— or rediscover them if they’ve faded.”
Between the Lines has already garnered international recognition on the festival circuit, earning awards such as Best Rafting Film (Paddling Film Festival World Tour 2025), Best International Short (SOAR Film Festival 2025), and Most Inspirational Film (Waterwalker Film Festival 2025), with screenings at Banff (World Premiere), Wild & Scenic, Mountainfilm, and more.
