Sophie Gilfillan, U21 Female Paddler of the Year – 2025 Paddlers Awards Winners
We are stoked to present Sophie Gilfillan as the U21 Female Paddler of the Year for 2025!
From logging more laps down Fifty Fifty on the Ashlu than most to dropping a smooth line off Tomata One in Mexico, Sophie had a phenomenal year. Originally from Ottawa, she spent this summer in the Sea to Sky pushing herself every chance she got, even throwing a cobra flip on Balls Falls. She put down a first descent of Prickly Canyon on the Tsable and became the first woman to run VicShitz, a forty-foot drop in Ladysmith, BC. And when she wasn’t sending, she was racing, taking first at the Upper Cheak race and first female team at the Callaghan race. Now wrapping up her season on warm Mexican water, styling high water on the Lower Jalacingo and sending off various drops, Sophie Gilfillan is unquestionably your U21 Female Paddler of the Year.
