2023 Paddlers Awards Winners – Dane Jackson (USA), Male Paddler of the Year

We take out hats off to Dane Jackson for taking the crown once again with a win of the 2023 Paddler of the Year Award.

We are so used to seeing Dane win everything that we are tempted to think he had a bad year when he doesn’t. That is, until you realize…World Freestyle Champion 2023. A descent of Mexico’s Santo Domingo Gorge, the first in years. Sending a Cobra flip on Scott’s Drop in California (Royal Gorge of the North Fork of the American). A 3 hr, 18 min « Fantasy Flash » with two portages on the Fantasy Falls section of the North Fork Mokelumne, plus back freewheels on Heath 1 and 2 at high flows (Royal Gorge), and a 1st D on Lower Balls Falls in Canada (~100 ft/30.4 m). That double airscrew. We’re probably missing something, but there are a few reasons why, despite fierce competition, Dane retains his title as Male Paddler of the Year 2023.
