World Waveski Tour 2008By Mathieu Babarit/ www.awwp.orgA large audience attended the 7 day event in very powerful beach break conditions.
Held on the South Western french coast near Lacanau, the event went beyond riders and organizers expectation with tons of local and national coverage.
Great wave conditions and fierce competition made the trip worthit for all overseas competitors…
The total prize money going directly to the riders where a whopping USA $ 6000.- French riders Mathieu Babarit and Caroline Angibaud walked away with the big pay cheques.All and all it has been an amazing event and a dream come true for the AWWP organisation. AWWP official explains : « Sure we have lots of room for improvement but largely we are well pleased with the outcome of the World Waveski Tour France 07. Some improvements would be a focus on ASP judges and a longer waiting period. Priority rules for the man on man heats, easier public access to the competition site and live video streaming of the entire Tour ».The total prize money going directly to the riders where a whopping USD $6000.-. This has proved to be the future of professional Waveski and a huge push forward for the development of the sport.
Things are looking very promising for the 2007 WWT. So far approximately 2 definite events are in the pipeline. The first with 2 competitions are scheduled for June 08 in Reunion Island and September 08 will see the World Waveski Tour back in France for 2 more events.2009 is looking even more promising with 2 scheduled events lined-up. June we will be in Israel and September back in France. So this is surely not the last of the World Waveski Tour and great things to come for Waveski with the AWWP.
