The kayaking season in Norway is going off! While rivers start running on perfect flow, more and more international kayakers are gathering. Tyler Curtis reports from an epic day on a Norwegian gem, the Teigdalen.

On Sunday morning I found myself in my summer home of Sjoa, Norway. While drinking coffee I did the normal morning routine of checking water levels and making phone calls. My most successful breakfast phone call was to good friend Andy Phillips who lives and works in the huck capital of Norway, Voss. He was extremely excited to tell me that the infamous Teigdalen was about to go off….!

The Teigdalen is Norway’s best steep creek and one that is more than difficult to catch. For the past 3 summers it has eluded me and it seemed like the opportunity I had been waiting for had arisen. I was finally going to paddle the Norwegian Gem -Teigdalen.

Logan Grayling, a fellow Canadian paddling gangster who is once again joining us for the Norwegian season, joined Mariann and I as we packed our Van and hit the road to Voss. Arriving late night didn’t seem to matter as the 20 hours of daylight and bumping tunes helped us press on to our hucking destination.

For our ‘Monster Monday’ run down the Teigdalen we were fortunate to have the likes of Mikey Abbot, Allen Ellard, and Andy Phillips to show us the way and good friends Greg Dashper and Mark Basso joining the team. Norwegian paddler and photographer Benji Hjort rounded out or crew for the first run of Teigdalen 2008!

This gem is littered with amazing drops ranging in height, slides of every size and length, technical whitewater, and of course the take out double drop, which is a perfect 9-meter into a 12 meter with a small pool between. The water level gained in size over the day, which helped keep everyone focused on the days task… stay safe, huck, and enjoy!

With the sun shining and a solid group we casually paddled our way from top to bottom and ended our nothing less than perfect ‘Monster Monday’ by dropping some serious verticality.

We are still on the road with great water levels so updates should be flowing.
